DIGITAL SIGNATURES ON THE T183?  HAVE YOUR SAY!

On February 3, 2020, CRA announced a consultation on enabling electronic signatures for the T183 and T183CORP.  See https://www.cra-engage-arc.ca/en/engagement-initiatives/consultation-enabling-electronic-signatures-t183-and-t183corp for details.

The proposals indicate that an electronic signature from a taxpayer whose identity has been verified by the filer would be permitted if it is provided:

  1. from the electronic address most recently provided by the taxpayer;

  2. through a location such as a secure website only accessible due to the location being made known, and access granted, to the taxpayer by the electronic filer; or

  3. is provided in person, in the presence of the electronic filer.

Implementation of the proposal would require an amendment to Schedule 2 of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, so CRA cannot unilaterally make this change.

Feedback will be accepted until March 4, 2020.
