The Government of Canada’s COVID-19 response page was updated on September 1, 2020 to summarize details of the previously announced changes to the EI system (and introduction of three new benefits). In addition to items previously announced, the following were noted:
You may be eligible to receive EI if you have been employed for at least 120 insurable hours in the past 52 weeks. If you received the CERB, the 52 week period to accumulate insured hours will be extended.
Changes to EI fishing benefits: EI fishing benefits for self-employed fish harvesters and sharespersons can be calculated using either actual fishing earnings for the current claim, or the fishing earnings from their claim for the same season from the previous year, whichever is higher.
