Tom practiced exclusively in the area of tax since 1974. During this time, he consulted with accountants and lawyers on multiple tax matters. Currently, he is less involved on a day-to-day basis but he has enjoyed his decades of teaching, writing, researching, mentoring and participating in various committees.

In 1980, Tom and Linda Devaney founded Video Tax News, where, among other accomplishments, Tom has published over 400 Monthly Tax Update Newsletters and has presented practical courses focusing on both personal and corporate tax to thousands of tax and accounting professionals across Canada.

Tom has lectured for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Society of Management Accountants, the Certified General Accountants Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and the Universities of Alberta, Calgary and McGill.

Tom is a past member of the CPA of Alberta’s Taxation Committee, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta’s Goods and Services Tax Subcommittee and the CPA Small and Medium Practitioner (SMP) Tax Subcommittee.
